Welcome to Marquette from the Career Planning Center staff. We look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout your law school career. Like other aspects of a positive law school experience, success in the job market requires shared responsibility between the school and each student. The CPC relishes its role in this school-student partnership and we strongly encourage you to make the CPC a vital component of your job search.
Our philosophy is one of individualized career planning and advising. Each student presents unique needs, motivations, values, goals, practice and geographic preferences, and credentials. Accordingly, getting to know you is critical for us to best assess career options, tailor job search strategies, and generally guide, support and encourage you in refining and achieving career objectives and navigating the extraordinarily competitive legal job market. We recommend you schedule a meeting with a member of the CPC professional staff as an initial step of your job search.
The links below provide a great deal of basic information and advice that can guide you in formulating a job search strategy and assist you in your job search efforts. These reference tools also should help you make sense of what you see and hear from your classmates and others regarding the legal job search. They are not, however, intended to be a definitive compilation of all the career-related information you will need over the next few years. Instead, they are designed to supplement and complement the human and myriad other resources available in the CPC.
IMPORTANT: Pursuant to the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) Principles and Standards for Law Placement and Recruitment Activities, law schools are not to offer career services to first-semester full-time first-year law students prior to November 1. Accordingly, the CPC does not offer services and resources to first-year students before November 1. Also pursuant to NALP Principles and Standards, prospective employers and first year law students are not to initiate contact with one another before December 1.
