Biography:
Ms. Werner is the Director of the Legal Initiative for Nonprofit Corporations (M-LINC). M-LINC is a program initially funded by a grant from the Helen Bader Foundation and housed at Marquette Law School. The M-LINC program strives to assist Wisconsin nonprofits with legal issues via educational programs and pro bono referral services. Ms. Werner also co-teaches the Nonprofit Law and Organizations course at Marquette Law School.
Prior to joining Marquette, Ms. Werner was an associate at Foley & Lardner LLP in the firm's tax and individual planning group. Her practice at Foley specialized in estate planning and tax issues related to nonprofit organizations. Earlier in her career, Ms. Werner was an associate at Simpson Thacher and Bartlett LLP (Simpson) in New York where she was a member of the firm's corporate and exempt organizations groups. At Simpson, Ms. Werner had the privilege of working with Victoria B. Bjorklund, the head of the firm's exempt organizations group, on many high-level legal issues for nationally renowned nonprofits.
Ms. Werner obtained her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Duke University School of Law and her B.A. degree from Princeton University.
