MAY AND AUGUST 2010 LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES

IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION

Many of you have begun the countdown to graduation. In the weeks and months ahead, we will provide detailed information about all the events involved with graduation. For now, please note the following times, dates, and locations of the University Baccalaureate Mass, the Law School Hooding Ceremony, the all-University Commencement Ceremony, and the group swearing-in ceremony at the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

University Baccalaureate Mass: Saturday, May 22 (4:30 - 6:00 p.m.)

  • The Mass will be celebrated at the U.S. Cellular Arena on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The service will conclude by 6:00 p.m.
  • Attendance is optional.
  • Academic apparel is not worn.
  • There is no limit to the number of guests a student may bring to the Mass.
  • Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Law School Hooding Ceremony and Reception: Saturday, May 22 (6:45 - 8:30 p.m.)

  • The Law School Hooding and Graduation Ceremony will take place at the Milwaukee Theatre (500 W. Kilbourn Avenue) beginning at 6:45 p.m. The Hooding Ceremony will be followed by a reception. The entire evening event should end between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m. Graduates and faculty must arrive by 6:15 p.m. to be lined up for the processional.
  • Law graduates are recognized individually at the Hooding ceremony. Graduates receive their academic hood onstage and their diploma cover from the Dean. A professional photographer is at the ceremony to photograph each graduate as he/she receives the diploma cover.
  • Attendance is strongly encouraged. Indeed, we would expect all students and their guests to want to attend and participate in this event.
  • Academic apparel is worn.
  • Graduates may bring up to 15 guests to the ceremony. However, there will be a charge for guests over the number 8 who attend the reception.
  • Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The ceremony itself will be followed by a catered reception at the same location (Milwaukee Theatre).

All-University Commencement Ceremony: Sunday, May 23 (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.)

  • The all-University Commencement Ceremony will be held at the Bradley Center (1001 N. Fourth Street) at 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
  • Law graduates will be seated as a group and will be recognized as a group.
  • Attendance is mandatory by University directive. Permission to be exempt from attendance at the all-University Commencement Ceremony must be made in writing to Jane Casper, Assistant Dean for Students.
  • Academic apparel is worn.
  • Graduates may bring an unlimited number of guests.
  • Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Law School diplomas will be distributed to graduates at the Bradley Center after the commencement ceremony.
  • Graduates will return their academic apparel at the Bradley Center after the commencement ceremony.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Group Swearing-In Ceremony: Monday, May 24 (Time TBA)

  • The group swearing-in ceremony in Madison at the Wisconsin Supreme Court is for May graduates who are eligible diploma privilege candidates.
  • The ceremony typically is held in the Ceremonial Courtroom of the State Capitol.
  • Because of the size of the Ceremonial Courtroom, graduates are limited to bringing two or three guests.
