Summary of Federalist Society Meeting, 11/22: 1. Writing Competition Procedures a. Due Date, Feb. 5th b. A folder will be kept in rm. 146 for submissions c. Rudy will chair the grading panel (assigning one or more others to help judge). Judges will not be eligible to participate in the competition. d. Criteria for winning entries will be originality, persuasiveness, creativity, clarity e. Change the word limit from 500 to 1000 f. M. Kapocius will have the rules and essay information posted to the website. g. Submissions will include a cover sheet with a 4 digit number and student's name. The essay will only include the 4 digit number. h. The student panel will select the top 5, the Milwaukee Chapter rep(s) will then pick the top three, in order. i. Winners will be announced Feb. 28 j. The prizes for the competition will be: (1) luxury box at Miller Park-number of seats, date, TBD, (2) $50 gift certificate to the Golden Eagle Gift Shop, and (3) $25 gift certificate to the Golden Eagle Gift Shop. Gift certificate monies to come from MULS FS budget. k. Encourage everyone at MULS to participate. 2. Spring Events a. Zwycki, professor from George Mason on April 17th. Topic: 17th amendment and the erosion of state's rights b. Poverty Debate with PILS. MKapocius will see a PILS rep about setting up a date for the debate. Most likely in Feb./March. c. Other ideas: having a professor speak during lunch hour, inviting Charlie Sykes for an afternoon speech. d. Spring Social: coincide with the NCAA tournament on or about April 1st. 3. Elections a. Make efforts to recruit/encourage 1 and 2L students to become active. b. Set dates for elections in April.
