The Jenkins Moot Court Competition is the capstone event of the intramural moot court program at Marquette University Law School. Congratulations to the following sixteen students who won spots in the Jenkins Competition through their top performance in Appellate Writing and Advocacy last fall:
- Jessica Farley & Brent Simerson
- Amber Peterson & Allison Ziegler
- Alyssa Dowse & Tim Sheehey
- Lindsay Caldwell & Lindsey Johnson
- Nicole Standback & Bridget Mueller
- Rachel Helmers & Nick Harken
- Sandy Giernoth & Megann Senfleben
- Tim Hassel & Joe Brydges
Facts Kirkwood High School Principal Joshua Lyman suspended one of his students, Eleanor Bartlet, when she refused to change her shirt at an event co-sponsored by the school. The shirt read Kirkwood Athletes for Medical Marijuana on the front, & Don't just survive, take a long hit and thrive on the back.
The Issues
- Whether the event in Kirkwood was a private forum in which speech censorship would be appropriate.
- Whether the censorship of the T-shirt was appropriate because it advocated illegal drug use, bore the school's imprimatur, or materially disrupted the educational process.
