Keyword Discovery Search is a different way to search the catalog of the Marquette University libraries. It offers a simple keyword search and displays results in a way intended to help you discover the range of materials related to your terms that are available through the campus libraries. It does not replace the advanced search features of Marqcat.

How do I format my search?
- All searches are keyword searches and are treated as AND searches.
- To search with Terms and Connectors (AND, OR, AND NOT), use the advanced search features of MarqCat.
- Use quotation marks to search for an exact phrase.
- Use an asterisk (*) to truncate (expand) a search by looking for variant endings. For example, defam* should return results that include defame, defamatory or defamation.
How do I limit or refine my search?
- You cannot limit your search to Law Library resources before you run the search.
- Use the facets to the left of the results to narrow your search by category like title, author and location. You can select as many facets as you would like, but only one from within each category. You can't, for example, limit Publish Date to either 2009 or 2008 at the same time.
- Click on the x in the Refined to line near the top of the results page to cancel. You can cancel refinements in any order.
- The tag cloud to the right of the results is another way to refine your search. Click on any of these subject headings to limit your results to those related to the tag. The tags in the biggest font are those that are most common among the results.
What else do I need to know?
- Keyword Discovery Search is new and its appearance may change over time.
- The Articles options may help for multidisciplinary research. They do not, however, include legal databases. You should consult the appropriate resources for legal journals and other legal periodicals.
- The Images box on the right side contains Yahoo images. These may not be related to your search and may not be from reliable sources.
Where did the other version of the catalog go?
- Click on More Search Options within Keyword Discovery Search or use the Law Library's website to access the catalog. You can use that to search by title, author, subject, call number and more.
- Marqcat was upgraded over the summer, so you may see minor changes. The features and search options are still the same.
