Bullying in Schools —Teaching Respect and
Compassion Through Restorative Practices

November 10, 2009
Monaghan Memorial Ballroom, 3rd floor, Alumni Memorial Union
Marquette University Campus, 1442 West Wisconsin Avenue

We are pleased to present Marquette University Law School’s 6th Annual Restorative Justice Initiative Conference, which this year is devoted to the sometimes devastating issue of the bullying of school-age children. The conference will focus on restorative solutions to bullying, highlighting some of the most troubling examples and the impact of their harm on victims and the community. The conference is intended for teachers, social workers, parents, and others who work with youth and seek to learn more about this issue.

No other law school has a program along the lines of Marquette’s Restorative Justice Initiative, which flows from our interest, as a Catholic, Jesuit institution, in excellence, faith, leadership, and service. The Restorative Justice Initiative educates law students as leaders who can bring together victims, offenders, and other community members to focus on resolving harm and conflict in our communities. Restorative justice is a process that creates a safe environment for dialogue, helping communities share their experiences. Such connectedness is the basis for building relationships and collaboration that facilitate healing and problem solving at the community level.

All who are interested in this challenging social issue are invited to attend.
