The “course streams” form an organizational construct for much of the Marquette
University Law School curriculum. They track the principal fields of law practice and
furnish current students, prospective students, faculty and others with important
information about curricular support for the various fields of practice.
In each of the streams relevant courses are catalogued in uniform categories.
These categories include open enrollment classes, seminars, workshops, associated
clinics and internships, advanced legal research opportunities, and in some instances a
law journal.
The streams also include a number of variable content classes, seminars and
workshops. These offerings have a temporary place in the curriculum to accommodate
specialized teaching interests of the full-time, adjunct and visiting faculty. In many
instances they ultimately become part of the permanent curriculum. Examples of recent
variable content offerings are included in this document; they are presented as “bulleted”
entries.
The catalogue of courses in the streams does not capture the full richness of the
Marquette curriculum. Many classes do not fit neatly into a stream but nonetheless
contribute in significant ways to preparing students for meaningful participation in the
legal profession. Courses offering various perspectives on the law and the legal
profession are ready examples.
Included in this document is a special presentation on support for public interest
law within the Marquette curriculum. Public interest lawyering transcends many areas of
law practice and the special materials on public interest law depict the broad curricular
support for those areas of law practice typically associated with the public interest.
