The Basics of Search

To enter a query into the search field, just type in a descriptive keyword (Example: ADR) and hit the 'enter' key (or click on the Submit button) for a list of relevant web pages. Since Marquette Law only returns web pages that contain all the words in your query, refining or narrowing your search is as simple as adding more words in quotations (Example: "alternative dispute resolution program") to the search terms you have already entered. Your new query will return a smaller subset of the pages Marquette Law found for your original query.

Choosing Keywords

For best results, it is important to choose your keywords wisely. Keep these tips in mind:
  • Try the obvious first. If you're looking for information on Alternative Dispute Resolution, enter "Alternative Dispute Resolution" rather than "adr".
  • Use words likely to appear on a site with the information you want. "Summer 2003 Course information" gets better results than "summer courses".
  • Make keywords as specific as possible.
  • Contain sentences in quotes, otherwise it looks for the first word, then second word, etc.
