With four campuses and more than 38,000 students in the area, the Milwaukee Area Technical College plays an important role in the region’s economic fortunes. But the college hopes to have an even greater impact. In September, new MATC President Vicki Martin introduced the “MATC Promise,” a plan to offer a free college education for area high school graduates who meet program eligibility requirements. In addition to explaining how the “promise” will work, Dr. Martin will discuss the college’s larger strategy for meeting the needs of its students and the region’s employers, many of whom will be looking to fill middle-skill jobs that require more than a high school diploma but not a bachelor’s degree. 12:15 to 1:15pm, Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall.
