At Marquette Educator, Dean Bill Henk has a powerful post responding to the RJI conference and recounting a personal experience with bullying: http://marquetteeducator.wordpress.com/2009/11/11/stop-bullying-now/. Unfortunately, I must confess that my first association with the term "bullying" is the movie "A Christmas Story," with its whimsical treatment of a young boy defeating a bully. One of the difficulties with taking bullying seriously in our culture is a long line of movies and television shows that treat bullying as a normal rite of passage for boys -- which, of course, should not be the case.

As a conference attendee, I was struck by the large volume of conceptual background that Dr. Morrison provided for interpreting the phenomenon of bullying. But I especially appreciated the candid and telling insights of the kids. There's nothing quite like going to the source, and I think you captured the essence of their panel discussion exceedingly well. Thanks.
