Eckstein Hall Dedication Program

The dedication of Eckstein Hall next Wednesday will feature Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson, Archbishop of New York Timothy M. Dolan, and United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, as described in this press release issued by the University. The event will begin place at 2 p.m. in the area between Eckstein Hall and Gesu Church (or Johnston Hall). I hope (and expect) that many will want to join us. Those interested should register by sending an e-mail to universityspecialevents@marquette.edu and plan on arriving early.

    A truly historic moment for the law school and the university, Joe, and congratulations on all your hard work.

    And I love the new address — 1215. Was that your stroke of genius? (If only construction could have been completed in time for a June 15 dedication.)

    Unfortunately we begin a trial on Tuesday that was scheduled last June and appears rock solid.

    Here’s to a memorable event and the launch of a new era for the law school!

    Justice Scalia and Chief Justice Abrahamson’s scheduled appearances are a great honor, but they are also a continuation of earlier tradition.

    Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Burr Jones spoke at the dedication of what came to be known as Sensenbrenner Hall, and United States Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas was the featured speaker at the dedication of the new Law Library building in 1967.

    Congratulations to Dean Kearney and the Law Faculty–especially Professor Ghiardi, on this historic occasion of the dedication of the new Law School building. While Dean Robert Boden and Associate Dean and Professor Charles Mentkowski admit that they will be absent from the actual event, they both remember the speech by Justice Douglas in 1967. Both Boden and Mentkowski send these comments from Heaven, and they testify to the fact that the Lord God is also very pleased.
