Welcome to the home page of the Association for Women in Law, the largest voluntary membership student organization at Marquette University Law School!
AWL meets regularly and sponsors professional development, social, and community service activities each semester. Regular meetings of the AWL provide members an opportunity to discuss issues important to them as members of the law school community and in entering the legal profession. Professional development activities include networking and mentoring activities with the Milwaukee Association for Women Lawyers.
Social events like movie nights and wine tastings give members an opportunity to interact in an informal and fun atmosphere on a break from the work and stress of law school.
Our community service projects benefit the general Milwaukee community. In the 2004-2005 adademic year, our service projects benefited Meta House, a residential and transitional program for women in treatment for alcohol and drug dependency and their children in the Milwaukee area. The activities included a fun Easter celebration for kids and their Moms held at one of the Meta House locations and having professional photographs taken of the mothers and the children for Mother's Day! During the past few years, AWL's activites benefited breast cancer awareness and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as well as the Hunger task force. Check out the events page for information about our upcoming service events!
New members are invited to join committees to help shape the activities of the organization, and our membership is open to all members of the law school commmunity. Get more information at the Organizations Fair during 1L orientation prior to the start of fall semester, during the beginning of the year at our recruitment meetings, or by emailing our current organization contact listed below.
