It Just Sounds Better—Small-Scale Tips and Techniques to Improve Your Legal Writing Style by Professor Jake Carpenter. As attorneys, we write and read every day. We know that some writing feels effortless and enjoyable to read, while some writing feels like a chore to work through. Substance aside, it can be difficult to pin down why some briefs read better than others. It is even more difficult to spot our own weaknesses. This CLE will highlight red flags to watch for in our briefs, with tips and techniques to sharpen dull writing, improve its flow and cohesion, and make it more enjoyable for judges to read.
