As the general counsel of the United States Department of Agriculture, Ms. Romero is the principal legal advisor to Secretary Tom Vilsack and other department officials.
Before joining the administration, Ms. Romero was a corporate counsel at E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, where she provided legal oversight for the acquisition of transportation, distribution, supply-chain management, travel, and energy resources and managed related strategic litigation. While there, she led initiatives aimed at promoting diversity in the legal profession. During the first 10 years of her legal career, she was a litigator at Crowell & Moring in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Romero is the recipient of many honors, including the Lucero ("guiding star") Award from Latino Justice PRLDEF (formerly known as the Puerto Rican Legal Defense Fund) and Hispanic Business Magazine's recognition in 2007 and 2010 as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States. Ms. Romero's degrees are from Barnard College and Harvard Law School.
This event honors Marquette University Law School students who have performed 50 or more hours of pro bono service during their law school careers. These hours are entirely voluntary; the students receive neither monetary compensation nor academic credit. The event also remembers Gene Posner, L '36, and celebrates the generosity of the Gene and Ruth Posner Foundation in supporting the Law School's public service work.
