Can I Take Out More Federal Loans for Summer School?

Are you are taking or are planning to take fewer than six credits during the summer session?

  1. Immediate Option: If you did not borrow the maximum Federal Financial Aid that you were awarded for the 2014–2015 academic year, contact Marquette Central for assistance at 414.288.4000.  You may be able to borrow these loans now in order to use them to fund your summer costs.  These loans must be requested and processed no later than April 30.
  2. Final Option: If you borrowed the maximum Federal Financial Aid that you were awarded for the 2014–2015 academic year, you may be considered for a Private Alternative Loan. For more information about this loan option, visit Marquette's Alternative Loan Options page.

Are you taking six or more credits during the summer session?

  1. Register for classes first. (Registration takes place in CheckMarq beginning on March 19.)
  2. Required application for Federal Student Aid.  The 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)–if not filed–must be submitted and received by the Federal Processor by June 30, 2015 to be considered for federal financial aid.
  3. The Office of Student Financial Aid will evaluate all students enrolled in at least six or more credits for summer financial aid eligibility beginning in March and continuing throughout the summer term.
  4. An email will be sent notifying you an award is available on CheckMarq.
  5. If you have borrowed all of your 2014-2015 Stafford Loans, you may still be eligible for an additional Grad PLUS Loan.  You must complete the Summer 2015 Federal Direct Grad PLUS Loan Credit Authorization Form, and the loan must go through a credit check process.  If the loan is denied, you have the option to obtain an endorser.

Are you planning on studying at another foreign or domestic institution?
