John Edward Hintz is an attorney and health care consultant in private practice in Hartland, Wisconsin, and is on the Adjunct Faculty at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee. He has earned degrees from Marquette (Law 1994), the University of Arizona (M.S. 1990), and the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point (B.S. 1988). Mr. Hintz is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Arizona, and is a frequent author and lecturer in the areas of health care law, contract analysis, and reimbursement of health care professionals. He has personally negotiated hundreds of health care contracts on behalf of both payer organizations and health care professionals.
Mr. Hintz began working in the health care field as an exercise physiologist in 1990, with a clinical practice focused on designing return-to-work therapies and conducting functional capacity assessments. He joined Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin in 1993, and from 1994 through 1997 practiced law in the areas of health care litigation, insurance and regulatory compliance, and corporate business transactions. His practice included defending state and federal litigation in Wisconsin and Arizona courts; devising, drafting and negotiating health care services reimbursement contracts; and providing counsel on regulatory inquiries, including administration of ERISA employee welfare benefit plans. In 1997, Mr. Hintz began focusing more on the business of health care, and assumed responsibility for the development, contractual negotiation and administration of the health care provider networks for both Blue Cross and its for-profit HMO, Compcare Health Services Insurance Corporation.
In 2001, Mr. Hintz left Blue Cross to form The Law Office of John Edward Hintz, J.D., M.S., a law and consulting practice devoted to representing health care professionals. In this practice he is General Counsel to Wisconsin Health Fund, a multiple employer Taft-Hartley trust fund which provides employee welfare benefits and operates its own multi-specialty clinic in Milwaukee. Mr. Hintz is also Corporate Counsel to Waukesha Elmbrook Health Care, S.C., an individual practice association of over 400 independent primary and specialty care physicians. Mr. Hintz's other clients range from solo practitioners to medium-sized healthcare corporations and limited liability companies to the largest physician-led multi-specialty group practice in southeastern Wisconsin.
