Rita Aleman Named Lubar Center Program Manager

WISN Rita AlemanRita Aleman has been named the program manager of Marquette Law School’s new Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education.

Since early 2016, Aleman has been executive producer for “Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien,” a Hearst Television weekly political news magazine based in Washington, D.C. Aleman was executive producer for special projects at WISN 12 television in Milwaukee from 2002 to 2016.

In her new role, Aleman will work with colleagues at the Law School to create, organize, and carry out events of the Lubar Center and extend the center’s reach, including an increased presence on the internet. Aleman is scheduled to begin work in January.

The Lubar Center’s work encompasses a wide range of public policy programs. They include the “On the Issues with Mike Gousha” series of moderated conversations with leaders and newsmakers; the Marquette Law School Poll; and conferences and programs on education, water policy, and other major issues. The launch event for the Lubar Center in Octoberincluded introduction of the Milwaukee Area Project, which will be a long-term exploration of issues and trends shaping life in the five-county Milwaukee area.

The Lubar Center is funded by a $7 million endowment from Milwaukee business and philanthropic leaders Sheldon and Marianne Lubar.

While working at WISN, Aleman led Hearst’s collaboration with the Law School and Milwaukee Public Television on statewide broadcast of several debates between candidates for Wisconsin governor and U.S. senator. “Rita Aleman is well known to us at Marquette Law School and in broadcast journalism in this region,” said Dean Joseph D. Kearney in announcing the appointment, “and she has a national profile as well. We very much look forward to Rita’s being part of the Lubar Center.”

Aleman, a Wisconsin native, has a degree in political science from Marquette University and a master’s in journalism and mass communication from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
