As law students know, tomorrow begins exam week.\u00a0 We have endeavored to present some exam taking tips from some of the faculty who will be administering those exams.\u00a0 (Those tips can be found here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>.) I’d like to add one more to the list.\u00a0 Relax.<\/p>\n

It may\u00a0seem odd to say “relax,” but I think\u00a0“relax” is\u00a0an important exam taking tip that is often overlooked.\u00a0 For weeks now, students have been outlining, reviewing their outlines and texts, meeting\u00a0with study groups to go over concepts, and\u00a0drawing graphs and flow charts on the\u00a0whiteboards in Eckstein Hall’s study rooms.\u00a0 All of\u00a0that work is the process of studying and all of that work will\u00a0continue in\u00a0your head long after you have closed\u00a0your text or left\u00a0your study group.\u00a0 (If, in the last couple of weeks, you have dreamt about\u00a0outlining or about the course material you know<\/em> your brain is processing all of this material.)<\/p>\n

Now, on the eve of exams, allow yourself permission to take the night off.\u00a0 Plan a dinner with friends (try not to talk about exams),\u00a0watch a funny\u00a0movie, get in a good workout.\u00a0 And above all, get a good night’s sleep.\u00a0 Your mind is processing and absorbing the material you’ve been feeding it; there isn’t anything new you will learn tonight if you push yourself to study until the wee hours of the morning.\u00a0 You can spend time tomorrow morning making one or two more runs through your outline before you head to your exam.<\/p>\n
