I thought I would take the occasion to post one of my favorites, from a poet who is not that well known any more: Gerard Manley Hopkins. Hopkins wrote poems in a peculiar style; among other things, the stress marks in the lines below are intended to indicate emphasis — I think the poem works better if you follow them.<\/p>\n

Spring and Fall<\/strong><\/p>\n

to a young child<\/em><\/p>\n

M\u00e1rgar\u00e9t, \u00e1re you gr\u00edeving
\nOver Goldengrove unleaving?
\nLe\u00e1ves, l\u00edke the things of man, you
\nWith your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
\n\u00c1h! \u00e1s the heart grows older
\nIt will come to such sights colder

\nThough worlds of wanwood leafmeal lie;
