Law School Wins 2014 Diversity Matters Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) honored Marquette Law School at its spring conference with the 2014 Diversity Matters Award.\u00a0 The LSAC Diversity Initiatives Office and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.DiscoverLaw.org\">Discover Law<\/a> sponsor the award.\u00a0 The award recognizes Marquette\u2019s commitment to diversity and its programming for high school students and college students from racial and ethnic groups underrepresented in law school and the legal profession.\u00a0 Marquette received the third place award two years ago.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Law School sponsored a number of events during the past year dedicated to diversity initiatives.\u00a0 High school students from all over Wisconsin visited the Law School through programs such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetlaw.org\/en\/home\">StreetLaw<\/a> Day, <a href=\"http:\/\/law.marquette.edu\/facultyblog\/2014\/03\/19\/law-day-gives-high-schoolers-glimpses-of-lawyers-in-the-movies-and-in-real-life\/\">Youth Law Day<\/a>, We the People, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marquette.edu\/eop\/upwardbound.shtml\">Upward Bound<\/a>.\u00a0 Students participated in a mock trial, took tours of the law school and the undergraduate school, and heard from panels of judges, lawyers, and law students.\u00a0 The Boys &amp; Girls Club of Milwaukee held two events at the Law School for its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boysgirlsclubs.org\/steinscholars.aspx\">Stein Scholars<\/a>.\u00a0 Marquette held a weeklong <a href=\"http:\/\/law.marquette.edu\/community\/summer-youth-institute\">Summer Youth Institute<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/law.marquette.edu\/facultyblog\/2013\/07\/22\/summer-youth-institute-at-marquette-law-school\/\">SYI<\/a>) for Milwaukee eighth through tenth graders where students learned about the American legal system and developed and presented an oral argument.\u00a0 The SYI also provided students with the opportunity to tour the federal and state courts in Milwaukee and law firms and corporate settings.\u00a0 At each, they\u00a0interacted with leaders in the legal community.<\/p>\n<p>College-aged students learned about law school from programs such as the Annual Wisconsin Statewide Minority Pre-Law Day (held at Marquette every other year) and the Diversity Information Session.\u00a0 Marquette undergraduates took advantage of the numerous public lectures at
