src=\"http:\/\/law.marquette.edu\/facultyblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/meares.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a>Professor Tracey Meares of Yale Law School will be here on Thursday to deliver the first annual George and Margaret Barrock Lecture on Criminal Law.\u00a0 Tracey is one of my favorite authors on criminal justice issues, and I am looking forward to hearing what she has to say on a topic that should be of particular interest in Milwaukee: &#8220;The Legitimacy of Police Among Young African-American Men.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tracey has coauthored a number of publications with her Yale colleague Dan Kahan, who spent a couple days here in the fall as our Boden Lecturer.\u00a0 In connection with Dan&#8217;s visit, I commented <a href=\"http:\/\/law.marquette.edu\/facultyblog\/2008\/10\/07\/kahan-on-law-enforcement-in-the-inner-city\/\">here<\/a> on one of the seminal Meares-Kahan articles.\u00a0 I expect that\u00a0Tracey&#8217;s talk on Thursday will touch on some of the same themes that were raised in\u00a0Dan&#8217;s exchange\u00a0with Mike Gousha and Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm in October (webcast <a href=\"http:\/\/law-media.marquette.edu\/Mediasite\/Play\/b869cc755dd14f05bd336c6f6855bbd31d\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to\u00a0the short-term prospect of\u00a0Tracey&#8217;s visit, I am also delighted to know that\u00a0the Barrock Lecture will provide\u00a0many future\u00a0opportunities\u00a0for us\u00a0to bring other criminal law luminaries to Marquette.\u00a0 The lectureship was established through a generous gift from the estate of Mary Barrock Bonfield to honor her parents. \u00a0Her father, George, was a Marquette lawyer, Class of
