DESCRIPTION:

Please join the Marquette University Law School Federalist Society Student Chapter for a panel discussion on Janus v. AFSCME. The panel will consist of Attorney Pat Hughes, President and Co-Founder of the Liberty Justice Center and the legal strategist behind Janus, Mr. Mark Janus, plaintiff in the case, and Marquette Law professors, Edward Fallone and Elana Olson.

In Janus v. AFSCME, 138 S. Ct. 2448 (2018), the United States Supreme Court ruled that non-union government workers cannot be required to pay union fees as a condition of working in public service. Attorney Hughes and Mr. Janus will discuss the case and the Court’s restoration of First Amendment Free Speech and Freedom of Association rights to more than 5 million government workers in 22 states. Professors Fallone and Olson will provide additional commentary, presenting the case’s implications in both Constitutional and Employment Law contexts.

Buffalo Wild Wings will be served for lunch. Please RSVP for this event.
