  • Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee’s Eviction Free MKE
    • Services provided: connects qualifying tenants (those at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level) facing eviction or having trouble paying rent with free legal assistance, including representation.

    • Services Provided: Free landlord/tenant mediation for communication issues, late/missed payments, maintenance/repairs, pests, disruptive behavior, and other lease violations. Mediation is available for parties with eviction hearings on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Mediation is also available by request Monday to Friday during regular business hours.     • Services provided:
      • The help line directs people to the appropriate organization for the type of assistance they seek. Services will be available in English or Spanish. Clients can alternatively use email to receive services.
      • The website provides tenants and landlords with resources to avoid evictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and is a central clearinghouse for information on rental housing.
      • The physical RHRC center is a trauma-informed space where people can meet with a partner organization and apply for a variety of rental assistance programs through computer kiosks with printers. Clients can also attend Zoom-eviction hearings at the physical location in soundproofed “Zoom Rooms.”

    • If you live in Milwaukee, and your rental housing has these or other types of problems, call Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Housing Condition Project at 855-947-2529. You will be scheduled for an intake appointment with an attorney. This project may help with:
      • Eviction defense
      • Reclaiming security deposits
      • Negotiating an early lease termination
      • Compelling landlords to fix housing problems
