2010 Jenkins Competitors Advance to Semifinals

After three intense preliminary rounds of competition, four teams have advanced to the semifinal rounds of the 2010 Jenkins Honors Moot Court Competition.  Please congratulate the following teams:

Gabe Johnson-Karp and Alexandra Grimley

Ashley Roth and Emily Lonergan

Nathaniel Wojan and Nicole Kowalski 

The semifinal rounds will take place on Wednesday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a reception in Eisenberg Hall.  All members of the Law School community are invited to attend both the semifinal and final rounds of competition. 

The final round will take place on Tuesday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Federal Courthouse, with a reception immediately following at the Milwaukee Club.

The Zilber Forum: A Great Legacy

The Zilber Forum will be the heart of Eckstein Hall, the impressive building that will become the home of Marquette University Law School this summer. I can think of four ways that it is appropriate to consider the Forum as a great part of the legacy of the Milwaukee real estate developer and philanthropist who was a 1941 graduate of the Law School and who died at 92 on Friday.

1) It is the result of an act of generosity. Especially in the last several years, Zilber was enormously generous to the city he called home all his life.

A Rainy Day in Boston

4226435693_8378885c16Our National Appellate Advocacy Competition adventures came to an end today.  One team advanced to the semifinal rounds, and I tried to explain to the teams that their performances were really outstanding accomplishments.  But I don’t think it helped much.  We also learned that the Labor and Employment Law team failed to reach the finals; though, again, from my perspective, their performance was terrific.

The rainy day here suited our mood pretty well.  We consoled ourselves with Italian food and desserts at the North End.  I think we’d all recommend Mike’s pastry.

It’s easier for me to say, being the coach and not the advocates, but I really do hope that the students can appreciate what an accomplishment it is to make such a good showing in these national competitions.  Eventually, anyway.  (I told them that I think it only took me about ten years to get over my own team’s loss in the National Moot Court Competition, when I was in law school.)
