Printing (and Scanning) at the Law School: FAQs
For general information about PrintWise, including links for downloading PrintWise to your laptop or desktop, visit https://marquette.edu/its/help/printing. You can also find details and links in the PrintWise handout at the Law Library Circulation Desk and on the signs near the PrintWise devices on all four floors of Eckstein Hall.
I sent my print job to PrintWise via email, but the job isn’t showing up. Where is it?
ITS recommends allowing up to 5 minutes for a document to be processed by the printing system. If your print job still does not appear, confirm you attached the document to the message rather than inserted it via a link. If given the choice when “attaching” a document, choose “Attach a copy” instead of “Share link.” Remember, this method of printing works for the following file types:
- Microsoft Word (*.doc, *.docx, and *.rtf)
- Microsoft Excel (*.xls and *.xlsx)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (*.ppt and *.pptx)
- Adobe Reader or PDF Files (*.pdf)
- Image Files (*.png, *.jpeg, *.jpg, *.tiff, *.tif, and *.gif)
- Text File (*.txt)
Can I use PrintWise via email and still select the number of pages I want to copy?
Yes, though this option does not allow you to take advantage of advanced finishing options. You might prefer to print from one of the computers in the reference area or to install PrintWise on your computer. You should still be able to manage basic printing options if you use the email to PrintWise option. After you retrieve your print job from the Secure Print option, select the item you want to print and then select Options on the printer. There, change the Page Range if you prefer to print only select pages from the document and then select either Print + delete or Print + Keep. (Alternatively, alter the document before sending, such as by using “Save as PDF” and choosing only specific pages before attaching to an email.) Visit the ITS page for using printwise@marquette.edu for more details.
How can I check the balance on my account or add funds?
Check your current PrintWise balance by visiting https://marquettecard.com. You can also use that site to add funds to your account. To check funds, you can instead tap your MUID on the PrintWise device, choose “Secure Print,” and look for your balance near the upper left portion of the screen. (Learn more about the PrintWise student allocation here.)
Is there a scanner in the law school?
PrintWise devices also serve as scanners. Look for instructions online or on the “back” of the PrintWise signs near the PrintWise devices on all four floors.
What happened to the option in Lexis to send items to a Lexis printer?
Returning students might remember that Lexis had an option to send items from within Lexis to a Lexis printer. Lexis ended its printer program this summer. Within Lexis, you can still choose to send a print job to an “Attached Printer.” From there, you can select printers just as you would from other programs, including PrintWise if you have that installed. Don’t overlook the convenience of other options within Lexis (and some other databases), including saving items to folders, a helpful feature if you want to save a document and take advantage of options like highlighting, annotating, or even sharing with others.
