New Waitlist Procedure

The Law School is utilizing a new waitlist process for summer and fall 2025 registration. We recommend reviewing the full instructions before your registration time. Click here for the full instructions, which are also posted on the Registration Materials webpage. Below are some key points.

Accessing the waitlist form.

  • At your assigned registration appointment time, if a desired course is full, you can add your name to the Law School’s registration waitlist by visiting the Registration Materials webpage of the Law School’s website and clicking on the appropriate semester’s waitlist form button.
  • You may only fill out this form after your registration time has started. Submissions made prior to your appointment time will be deleted.

Editing your waitlist form after submission.

  • In order to later edit your waitlist request after submission, you must click the “Save my response to edit” button that appears on your browser screen immediately following submission. We STRONGLY recommend that every student select this option each time you submit a waitlist form to preserve the ability to edit your form in the future.
  • Clicking this button will allow you to update your selections as seats become available and your schedule or interests shift.

Waitlists will be processed weekly.

  • It is important that, as needed, you view and edit all of your waitlist forms to ensure that they are accurate and up-to-date. The information you provide will be used to move your classes should a seat on a waitlisted course open up for you. You will be notified once you have been added to a course.
  • If you receive an email indicating that there is an issue with your request, you must respond to the email within 48 business hours to resolve the enrollment issue. If you do not respond, the class seat will be offered to the next student on the waitlist, but you will not lose your spot on the waitlist.
  • Do not reach out to faculty to be added to a course prior to the start of the semester. Faculty will have discretion to add students to their classes once the semester begins and waitlists are cleared. Prior to that, students MUST be added in order of the waitlist.

Viewing your waitlist position. After registration, you will receive regular emails that indicate where you are on each waitlist and what, if any, movement has occurred on the waitlist.

Final Exam ID Numbers, Room Assignments, and More

Below are several important updates regarding final exams.

Final Exam ID Numbers

Anonymous ID numbers for final exams are posted on the Law School website. You can find your final exam ID on your individual directory page after you have logged into the website. Please note, this number is distinct from your MUID and any former midterm or final exam ID numbers that were listed on your directory page prior to March 26, 2025.

Final Coursework Student Agreement

All Marquette law students, even those without scheduled exams, must submit this required form, which was due on April 17. If you have not already done so, please click here to access the agreement, which takes fewer than five minutes to complete.

Exam Rooms

Students should not expect to take their final exam in the room in which their course met. If you will be taking a scheduled exam this semester, please click here for the room assignments for final exams, and take note of the classroom you will be testing in before you arrive for your exam. You must arrive to your assigned exam room 20 minutes early to receive instructions regarding technology and exam procedures. Please note, 1L exam rooms are determined by the first letter of each student's last name.

Download Examplify Software

Those students who are taking a law school final exam for the first time this semester or who are using a new computer and have an in-person, scheduled final exam this semester must download the Examplify software. For instructions, please click here.

For a list of FAQ about exams, please click here. Additional information can also be found in the March 27th Law News special edition that all students received.

If you have any technical questions about exams, including those regarding Examplify or ExamSoft, please contact the Law School Media and Technology Group at mulawtech@marquette.edu. If you have any other questions regarding final exams or exam procedures, please reach out to Dean Fodor

And most of all – we have fun!

Summer and Post-Graduation Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Westlaw Access

For all law students: Your access to Bloomberg Law, Lexis, and Westlaw is tied to the graduation date in your account profiles for each system.

Employers or organizations with which you volunteer or intern might require or prefer that you use firm/organization accounts rather than database access through your academic account. Please understand and comply with relevant practices and policies. Importantly, you must not share your Marquette-affiliated account credentials or access with anyone, including classmates or colleagues at work who have their own accounts.

Continuing students:

Bloomberg Law & Lexis: You will have automatic, unrestricted access to your Bloomberg Law and Lexis accounts this summer. There is no need to register and you do not need to limit use of these two accounts to academic purposes during the summer months. (Use of your Marquette-affiliated Lexis account much be limited to academic purposes during the regular academic school year, with permissible use expanding during the summer to include work for a firm, non-profit, clerkship, internship, or externship.)

Westlaw: You will also have automatic access to your Westlaw account this summer, but you must continue to limit use of your academic Westlaw account to non-commercial purposes. Non-commercial purposes include coursework, Research Assistant assignments, law review or journal work, moot court research, unpaid non-profit public interest work, clinical work for credit, and internships/externships for credit through the law school.

You can continue to use other databases, like HeinOnline, as you would during the fall and spring semesters.

Graduating students

Bloomberg Law: Your unrestricted Bloomberg Law access continues for six months after you graduate.

Lexis: Your access to Lexis continues through December 2025, also with no additional registration required and with no limits on research time. Your Lexis account will automatically switch to a graduate portal in July. That portal includes access to most of the same content and features you have now, excluding public records, Protégé, Law360, and Practical Guidance. (Important: If you have Lexis Rewards and are graduating, redeem your points before they expire on June 30, 2025.) Lexis also offers the ASPIRE Program for grads engaged in 501(c)(3) public interest work. Learn more about Lexis graduate access at https://lexisnexis.com/grad-access/.

Westlaw: To extend your Westlaw access, including CoCounsel and Practical Law, register at https://lawschool.westlaw.com/authentication/gradelite if you have not already opted-in. This Grad Elite access extends for 18 months after graduation, with up to 60 hours of Westlaw use per month (compared to the 180-hour monthly cap in place for active student accounts). It can be used to gain understanding and build your knowledge of the law, increase confidence in your research skills, and prepare for the bar exam. It is not for commercial purposes, including situations when you are billing a client.

Watch for an email to your @marquette.edu account after graduation with reminders and related information from the library.

Do you have questions about access to resources or working with these and other databases? Reference assistance and research consultations are available to you throughout the summer and beyond. Just stop at the Reference Desk or contact a reference librarian to get started. We're happy to help!
