Subscription Databases

Eckstein Law Library offers a variety of online subscription databases in addition to its print collection.  The list below is organized alphabetically by subscription title.  It offers a short description of what is contained in each subscription database and a general statement explaining who has access to it. The titles to the subscriptions are conveniently hyperlinked.

Books Unbound

  • Books Unbound is the online version of the Wisconsin Bar PINNACLE books including the "brown binders," Wisconsin Business Advisor series, and the Wisconsin Judicial Benchbooks. 

  • Access is available to law faculty and currently enrolled Marquette law students who register under the Law Student Associates Program of the Wisconsin Bar.  Patrons visiting the law library should consult with a reference librarian for access to this resource.

Bloomberg Law

  • Provides company and market information, proprietary news and comprehensive legal content.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School through individual usernames and passwords.

Bloomberg BNA

  • Includes over 100 BNA titles with extensive coverage of legal and regulatory developments for professionals in business, government and law.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library. Law faculty and students working remotely please contact a reference librarian for login information.

CALI

  • Provides hundreds of interactive exercises to assist law students in the study of law.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School. Law students may contact the reference desk (288-3837) for the password.

CCH Intelliconnect

  • Offers CCH's tax library of materials as well as a number of other subject area libraries of materials including banking, corporate governance, intellectual property, labor and employment, and securities law.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community (VPN required for remote access).

Fastcase

  • Contains federal and WI state cases, statutes and regulations as well as Wisconsin Jury Instructions. 

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School. Fastcase is available to members of the Wisconsin Bar through their own individual log in.  

  • Patrons visiting the law library interested in using the online Wisconsin Jury Instructions may contact a law librarian for access to this portion of the Fastcase subscription.  

Foreign Law Guide

  • Offers legal research guides for over 190 foreign jurisdictions.  Research guides provide background on the foreign legal systems, sources of law, and the availability of English language translations of primary sources of law and secondary materials.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library.

HeinOnline

  • Offers a collection of a variety of legal research materials. The HEIN Law Journals Library offers journal articles in pdf format. Also includes a variety of federal and international materials in searchable format.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community.

ICLR:  Incorporated Council for Law Reporting for England & Wales

  • Contains the opinions of the Appellate and Superior courts of England and Wales.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library. Law faculty and students working remotely may either use VPN or call the reference desk for the user name and password.

Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals

  • Indexes over 300,000 “articles and book reviews appearing in more than 500 legal journals published worldwide. It provides in-depth coverage of public and private international law, comparative and foreign law, and the law of all jurisdictions other than the United States, the UK, Canada, and Australia. Regular search features cover 1985 – current.  The database contains historical coverage back to 1960 through the pdf of the print editions.  Articles written in other than English  are not available at Marquette Law Library.  If you are unable to locate an article, please consult a reference librarian for further assistance and help with placing an Interlibrary Loan request.

  • Access to IFLP is through HeinOnline.  Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community and patrons visiting the law library.

International Encyclopedia of Laws

  • Offers a country-by-country compilation of national and international laws.  There are currently 25 topics in the IEL collection (e.g., cyber law, intergovernmental organizations, migration law, religion).  Select the  MANUALS tab from the home page to obtain a complete listing of topics.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library. Law faculty and students working remotely may either use VPN or call the reference desk for the user name and password.

JSTOR

  • Contains almost 400 journals covering business, ecology, economics, finance, management, history, mathematics, political science, population studies, language, literature and science. Articles available in full text and searchable.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community (VPN required for remote access).

JustCite

  • Citator service for UK and EU case law and legislation.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library.

Law360

  • Offers newsletter coverage of litigation in 44 practice areas; tracking and reports on 20,000 companies, firms and industries; expert analysis written by attorneys at top law firms.  Newsletters link to court documents rapidly, oftentimes before they are available on PACER or elsewhere.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community (VPN required for remote access)

LegalTrac

  • Indexes all major law reviews (1980 to present). Includes some legal newspapers, bar association journals and international legal journals.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library.

Legislative Insight

  • Offers compiled legislative histories which include Public Law text, all versions of enacted and related bills, Congressional Record excerpts, and committee hearings, reports, and documents as well as committee prints, CRS reports, and miscellaneous congressional publications.  Coverage from 1929 - current scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community.

Lexis

  • Includes federal and state cases, statutes, regulations, international materials and a variety of secondary resources including reference materials, law journals and newspapers.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School through individual usernames and passwords.

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe

  • Offers full-text articles related to business, law, government, and medical topics drawing from newspapers, journals, magazines, wire services as well as primary and secondary legal materials.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community.

LexisNexis Digital Library

  • Provides access to study aids in the Mastering, Q&A, Skills & Values, and Understanding series, as well as other select sources.
  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School. Sign in is with a complete @marquette.edu email address and a PIN. Click the “contact us” link beneath the “Sign In” box for assistance with your PIN. 

The Making of Modern Law – MOML

  • Offers 19th and early 20th century Anglo-American legal treatises.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community.

Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law

  • Provides updated and searchable access to the Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law (MPEPIL) entries in print.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library.

National Consumer Law Center Digital Library

  • Includes Consumer Litigation, Credit & Banking, Debtor Rights, and Deception & Warranties collections of materials.

Newsbank / Access World News

  • Includes over 4,000 full-text newspapers and other sources including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (1/22/90-Current), New York Times (1985-Current), Wisconsin Law Journal (4/4/01-Current).

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library.

Practising Law Institute

  • Offers materials related to its CLE courses.  The database includes PLI treatises, course handbooks, answer books, and the associated forms as well as full transcripts of many of the CLE courses.  

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School and patrons visiting the law library.

ProQuest

  • Offers index, abstract, and select full text articles of a variety of magazines and journals both general interest and scholarly.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community.

Proquest Congressional

  • Provides the CIS index for congressional publications from 1817 to present, full-text of recent Congressional publications and abstracts for earlier materials, bill tracking reports, legislative histories, federal regulations, and committee information. Through the CIS index, researchers can search laws by subject, citation, committee, witness, or other document numbers assigned during the legislative process.

Quimbee

  • Includes hundreds of video lessons covering a variety of classes, transcripts of these lessons, and thousands of practice questions with explanations to supplement other study methods.
  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School. Law students may contact the reference desk (288-3837) for registration assistance. 

SBRnet (Sports Business Research Network)

  • Provides searchable news and market research from the National Sporting Goods Association and other industry sources on all aspects of sporting goods, sports equipment, participation, broadcasting, and marketing.

  • Access is restricted to members of the Marquette Community.

Tax Notes

  • Provides in-depth tax information.  Covers all federal tax laws and regulations.  Also offers state-by-state coverage of state tax laws and regulations.  Includes international tax treaties.

  • Access is restricted to faculty and students of Marquette University Law School.  Faculty and students may contact a reference librarian for instructions on initial registration.  Law students enrolled in tax law may contact their tax law professor for instructions on initial registration.  After a one-time initial registration that must be handled from within the law school IP range, users may log in remotely.

Westlaw

  • Contains federal and state cases, statutes, regulations, international materials and a variety of secondary resources including reference materials, law journals and newspapers.
