Legal Tools to Protect Children of Undocumented Parents

Attorney Courtney Roelandts is the assistant managing attorney for the Children’s Court Guardian ad Litem Division with the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee. She graduated from Marquette University Law School with her J.D. in 2018, and from Washington University in St. Louis with her MSW in 2015. Her practice focuses on child welfare cases (CHIPS), minor guardianships, and termination of parental rights cases (TPR), with a specialization in appeals. Over the last two years, Attorney Roelandts has argued four cases before the Wisconsin Supreme Court focusing on the right to counsel and other procedural issues in TPR proceedings.
Attorney Angela Feliciano is the managing attorney for the Immigration team with the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee. Her practice focuses on initial asylum applications, work permits, and adjustments of status. The Immigration team hosts various clinics throughout Milwaukee that primarily focus on preparing power of attorney’s for families. Attorney Feliciano graduated cum laude from Marquette University Law School with her J.D. in 2022, and received her Bachelor’s degree in 2019 from Marquette University.
Students can earn one hour of pro bono time by attending the MVLC Volunteer CLE Series. This free CLE series provides volunteers with in-depth information on some of the most commonly seen issues at the Clinics.
These sessions are a great way to enhance your knowledge of the legal issues faced by clients of the MVLC while earning additional pro bono hours.
