Constitution Day Program: How do citizens of other countries view the U.S. Constitution?
Tuesday, September 17
Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall, Appellate Courtroom
Complimentary event. A light lunch will be provided.
This year's program will focus on how the United States Constitution is viewed in other countries around the world, both as a written document and as a system of governmental arrangements. The speakers are members of the Marquette community who are natives of countries other than the United States. Participants also will be invited to comment on how, if at all, the United States Supreme Court’s recent decisions on gay marriage, voting rights, and affirmative action are viewed abroad.
Panelists: Anna High (Law, from Australia); Diana Ecaterina Oprinescu (Political Science, from Romania); Olga Semukhina (Social and Cultural Studies/Criminology, from Russia); and Irene Ten Cate (Law, from the Netherlands).
Chairs: J. Gordon Hylton (Law, USA), and Paul Nolette (Political Science, USA).
