You are invited to Lean In! Marquette Law School is hosting an opportunity for women lawyers to come together to discuss Sheryl Sandberg’s book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. How can professional women seek challenges, take risks, and find balance? Share what works for you, and learn from others.
Wednesday, November 6
Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall – Room 433AB
7:30am, registration/coffee
8 to 9am program
The event is complimentary.
Please note that, given the nature of the event, invitation/attendance is limited and is by single registration (no guests).
Have you read the book and hoped for an opportunity to discuss – well this is it. Lori S. Meddings, L’01, a partner at Michael Best and head of the firm’s Diversity Committee, and Erin Binns, Marquette Law School Director for Career Planning and lawyer, will lead a discussion on what lessons can be learned from the book Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg.
- In what ways are women and girls dissuaded from pursuing their goals and becoming leaders?
- Taking risks. When have you challenged yourself? Did you succeed or fail? Did it
make you more likely to challenge yourself in the future? - Attributing success. When men succeed, how do they account for their success?
- How do women account for their success? Why does it matter what people attribute
their success to? - When you succeed, to what do you attribute your accomplishments?
- Successful negotiations. What unique obstacles do women face in negotiations?
- Have you ever had a disappointing negotiation? A successful one? Why do you
think one worked and the other didn’t? Is there anything you will change in your next
negotiation? - Your definition of success. How do you define success? What are your goals and
what are you doing to achieve them? - Moving on up. Do you see your career as a ladder or a jungle gym? How many jobs
have you had in your life? How many do you anticipate having?
