On Thursday, January 23, the Sports Law Speaker Series will feature a discussion with Harry Marino, President, and David Foster, General Counsel, of Sports Solidarity an organization whose mission "is to help athletes, coaches, officials, and other sports industry workers improve their lives through collective action," https://www.sportssolidarity.org/our-mission.  Attorney Marino is a former professional baseball player who led the successful effort to unionize 5,500 minor league baseball players across 150 teams and negotiated the players’ historic first collective bargaining agreement, among many other legal and sports experiences.  Attorney Foster is a former collegiate track and field athlete with extensive sports union experience, having served as Executive Director of the Next Gen Basketball Players Union, deputy general counsel at the National Basketball Players Association, helping unionize basketball’s minor league (G League), and negotiated collective bargaining agreements on behalf of NBA and G League players, and assisted WNBA players on several legal matters.  The discussion will focus on their work, their career paths, and their advice for law students interested in working in the sports industry.  They also recently opened up an internship for law students and selected 2L Sports Law Certificate candidate Sophie Butler as a spring 2025 intern. Students should arrive in room 444 at 12 pm to grab lunch and a seat.  Our guests will then join us on Teams in the room at 12:10 pm.
