Maggy established the "Maison Shalom” agency, which serves over 30,000 young people and families suffering from the aftermath of twelve years of civil war between the Tutsis and the Hutus in Burundi. She is the 2008 Opus Prize Winner. In order to care for the many children affected by the conflict in Burundi, Barankitse and her team operate “children villages.” These 500 small houses throughout the country, including in the capital of Bujumbura, provide children support and nurturing by reintegrating them with loving families. The focus of Barankitse’s work and Maison Shalom is to change the lives of children. 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., Marquette Law School, Eckstein Hall. This event is part of Marquette University Mission Week 2013: The World Is Our Home and is being co-sponsored with the Law School and Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. The event is complimentary and open to the public.
