Biography

Dr. Darek Ciemniewski is Marquette Law School’s Writing Specialist. Dr. C joined the law school community in 2008 while teaching writing, including English as a Second Language, in the English Department, where he started in 1995 and continued until 2020. During summer sessions at that time, he also taught writing in the Freshman Frontier Program (renamed Emerging Scholars Program), an academic support program that helps prospective students transition from high school to college. Outside academia, Dr. C evaluated foreign educational credentials and experiential education as well as drafted specialty occupation analyses in response to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Requests for Evidence in H-1B visa cases. 

Dr. C earned his first master’s degree, in English with certification in teaching, from the University of Warsaw, Poland. Before receiving his second master’s degree and a doctorate, both in History, from Marquette University, Dr. C served with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, where he coordinated removal of unexploded ordnance and planned mine clearing operations in the Middle East, for which he received an In the Service of Peace medal. Dr. C enjoys wildlife photography.
