Biography
David N. (Dave) Farwell is Assistant Corporation Counsel to Milwaukee County. Dave began his legal career as an associate in the Milwaukee office of Foley & Lardner LLP where he was a member of the Real Estate Practice Group, representing numerous clients in all manner of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, project development, and tax increment financing transactions. His experience as a young associate, tasked early on with closing a real estate transaction (whatever that meant), prompted him to develop the course he now teaches, a workshop in drafting documents for and conducting a commercial real estate transaction in Wisconsin. Immediately prior to his career with the Office of Corporation Counsel, Dave spent nearly eight years as in-house counsel to Milwaukee-based ManpowerGroup Inc. where Dave, among many other things, was responsible for handling legal issues related to the company's real estate interests.
Mr. Farwell earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School (J.D., magna cum laude, 2006), where he was a note and comment editor (2005-2006) and a staff member (2004-2005) for the Marquette Law Review. In the summer of 2004 he was fortunate enough to clerk for The Honorable William D. Dyke, Wisconsin Circuit Court Judge for Iowa County. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Madison (B.A. in history, with distinction, 2000).
Mr. Farwell is the author of "Comment, A Modest Proposal: Eliminating Blight, Abolishing But-For, and Putting New Purpose in Wisconsin's Tax Increment Financing Law," 89 Marq. L. Rev. 407. His Comment was the recipient of the 2006 Marquette Law School Silver Quill Award.
Mr. Farwell is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Bar Association and is admitted to practice in the state of Wisconsin. Dave is also a member of the Board of Directors of Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc.
