Biography

Martin J. Greenberg is the managing member of the Law Office of Martin J. Greenberg, LLC, specializing in the areas of real estate and sports law and is active as an expert witness in those areas. He is the former Chairman of the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board and the Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation, and served on the Board of the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District (Miller Park). He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Marquette University Law School where he has taught real estate and sports law courses for well over 45 years. He currently teaches Representing Professional Athletes and Coaches, and Sports Venues: From Election Day to Game Day Workshops. Greenberg was the founder and Director of the National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School from November of 1989 to April of 1997, and is a former Chair and current member of the NSLI Board of Directors. The Institute has established the Martin J. Greenberg Award for Excellence in the Study of Sports Law in honor of his contributions to the Sports Law Program and the NSLI. Greenberg was awarded the 2001 Joseph O'Neill Award and the 2007 Charles W. Mentkowski Law Alumnus of the Year Award by the Marquette University Law School, and the 2014 Master of the Game Award by the NSLI. He is also the recipient of Milwaukee Bar Association Lawyer of the Year Legal Scholar Award (1988), the Wisconsin Bar Foundation Donald O'Melia Local Service Award (2009), the Wisconsin Law Journal Leaders in the Law (2009), State Bar of Wisconsin Senior Division’s Leonard L. Loeb Award (2017), and is noted in the publication "Best Lawyers in America." Greenberg is rated 10/10 on AVVO and 5/5 on Martindale Hubble. Greenberg has authored or co-authored several books including Sports Law Practice (1993 & 1998), SportsBiz (1989), and The Stadium Game, Second Edition (2001). He is also a frequent contributor to the Marquette Sports Law Journal, Greenberg’s Coaching Corner hosted by Marquette University Law School, and maintains a blog entitled Sport$Biz about legal and economic issues affecting the sports industry.
