Biography

Michael P. Waxman is a Professor of Law at Marquette University Law School and is Of Counsel to the Milwaukee law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. Professor Waxman teaches, writes and consults in the fields of Antitrust, International Litigation and Arbitration Law, International Business Transactions, Corporate and Administrative Law with a special emphasis on East Asian law (especially Japan) and Australian law. For the 1993-94 academic year, he was a Fulbright Senior Professor on the law faculties of Osaka University and Kobe University in Japan. He taught courses and seminars addressing comparative U.S.-Japanese competition law and international business transaction law. In 1987-1988. Professor Waxman was a Fulbright Research Scholar in Japan affiliated with Sophia University and the University of Tokyo. His research concentrations included the interactions among small and medium size Japanese enterprises and their legal relationships to larger businesses and the government. Professor Waxman has been regularly recognized by numerous Who's Who publications as well as the Directory of Japan Specialists (published by the Japan Foundation and the Association of Asian Studies) and Access Asia. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute and serves on a number of its committees.

A graduate of Cornell University and Boston College Law School, Professor Waxman has served as a Senior Supervising Attorney at the Federal Trade Commission (U.S.) and with a large corporate law firm in Baltimore, Maryland. Professor Waxman has been actively involved in the international practice sections of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Wisconsin. He was the first Chairman of the International Practice Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin and has served as the State Bar's Representative to Japan. Selected as one of the 90 people for the 1990's by the Milwaukee Journal, Professor Waxman was appointed the first Chairman of the Sister State Committee for the Sister State relationship between Chiba Prefecture (Japan) and the State of Wisconsin.
