Biography

Nora Platt is an Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary in Northwestern Mutual’s Law Department. Her legal work focuses on compliance with the laws and regulations governing sales practices in the securities and insurance industries, as well as issues related to elder financial exploitation, privacy, unfair competition, employment law, and general business law matters as they impact Northwestern Mutual’s field force. She has particular expertise in the oversight and resolution of investigations of harassment and discrimination allegations. Nora was previously a partner in the Litigation and Product Liability practice groups at Quarles & Brady, LLP. Nora earned her J.D. magna cum laude from Marquette University Law School in 1992, and her B.S. in English/Secondary Education with Distinction from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1986. She taught high school before attending law school. Nora is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee. She helped establish a pro bono program for the Northwestern Mutual Law Department and participates in various pro bono efforts in the Milwaukee community. She is also deeply involved in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, currently chairing the company’s Law and Public Affairs Diversity and Inclusion Council. Nora is a member of the Wisconsin Access to Justice Commission, and is past chairperson of the Office of Lawyer Regulation Preliminary Review Committee.  Her most recent speaking engagements include Tips and Traps for the Well-Intentioned: Creating Effective and Legal Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Programs at the Wisconsin Association for Corporate Council Annual Program (panel contributor) (November 4, 2021, Elkhart Lake, WI); and Expedition Unknown: Navigating Emerging Technology and How eDiscovery Experts are Guiding Clients at the National Association of Minority and Women Lawyers Annual Meeting (panel contributor) (September 23, 2019, Los Angeles, CA).
