Reminders from the Law Library: Study Aids

Looking for hypos or other resources to help test your understanding as you continue to prepare for exams? From resources in the LexisNexis Digital Library to interactive lessons in CALI to print resources with more sources for practice questions, you have access to a range of resources through the Eckstein Law Library. For many areas of law, the Questions & Answers series (LexisNexis Digital Library and print) can be an excellent choice for long-form hypos as well as multiple-choice and short-answer questions, the Examples & Explanations series (print) offers hypos with explanations, and CALI incorporates questions into interactive tutorials.

How do you access these resources and other study aids? The Study Guides for 1Ls or Study Guides for 2L/3L Courses research guides are good starting points, or ask a Reference Librarian. Also contact Reference if you have questions about creating a CALI account or working with any of these resources. (You likely created a CALI account during Orientation, but please don’t hesitate to ask for assistance!)

For print study aids, stop at the Circulation Desk during service hours to check out copies of current study aids from the Reserve collection, or search MarqCat to find older editions on the second floor. Older editions can be checked out for two weeks.

Lexis, Thomson Reuters Westlaw, and Bloomberg Law offer resources you might find helpful for study purposes, too. For example, in Lexis, look for “Law School Resources” in the “Tools & Resources” box on the “Legal Research” page of Lexis+, serving as a portal to doctrinal pages, select Themis outlines, and more, or even explore Practice Videos in Practical Guidance. From Thomson Reuters Westlaw, consider the Practical Law Law School Resource Center and the 1L Resource Center Toolkit for videos, course study collections, flowcharts, and podcasts, or resources for select law school courses via the Thomson Reuters Law School homepage. Bloomberg Law offers Law School Course Resources, too.

Importantly, study aids never substitute for your own work. Rely on information from your professors and strategies you learned through the components of the Academic Success Program, working with study aids only to supplement other study methods.

Final Exam ID Numbers, Room Assignments, and More

Below are several important updates regarding final exams.

Final Exam ID Numbers

Anonymous ID numbers for final exams are posted on the Law School website. You can find your final exam ID on your individual directory page after you have logged into the website. Please note, this number is distinct from your MUID and any former midterm or final exam ID numbers that were listed on your directory page prior to April 2, 2026.

Final Coursework Student Agreement

All Marquette law students, even those without scheduled exams, must submit this required form, which was due on April 16. If you have not already done so, please click here to access the agreement, which takes fewer than five minutes to complete.

Exam Rooms

Students should not expect to take their final exam in the room in which their course met. If you will be taking a scheduled exam this semester, please click here for the room assignments for final exams, and take note of the classroom you will be testing in before you arrive for your exam. You must arrive to your assigned exam room 20 minutes early to receive instructions regarding technology and exam procedures. Please note, 1L exam rooms are determined by the first letter of each student's last name.

Download Examplify Software

Those students who are taking a law school final exam for the first time this semester or who are using a new computer and have an in-person, scheduled final exam this semester must download the Examplify software. For instructions, please click here.

For a list of FAQ about exams, please click here. Additional information can also be found in the April 2nd Law News special edition that all students received.

If you have any technical questions about exams, including those regarding Examplify or ExamSoft, please contact the Law School Media and Technology Group at mulawtech@marquette.edu. If you have any other questions regarding final exams or exam procedures, please reach out to Dean Fodor

Five Tech Tips for Final Exams

If you have an Examplify exam in your future, please review the following five tips and take necessary action before exam day. Students are welcome to stop by suite 218 for assistance.

  1. Run Computer Updates. Well in advance of exam day, please make sure your computer is fully up to date and that all operating system updates have been installed. Out-of-date operating systems can cause delays and issues.
  2. Open Examplify to Confirm it Is Working Correctly, You Know Your Password, and All Exams Appear. Confirm that Examplify is installed correctly and that you can see your upcoming exams within the program.
    • If your professor has confirmed you will be using Examplify, you should see your exam in the left-hand exam list.
    • If you do not see your exam in that list, please stop by Eckstein Hall, Room 218; the Media & Technology Team will be happy to assist you with troubleshooting.
  3. Take Practice Exams. You are strongly encouraged to take as many practice exams as needed until you feel comfortable using the software. Descriptions of available practice exams and their passwords can be found on the Law School’s website.
  4. Reboot Before Exam Day. Please reboot your computer the night before your exam,or at least two hours before your exam start time.
    • Note: Closing and reopening your laptop lid is not the same as rebooting. Rebooting helps ensure your computer runs at optimal performance.
  5. Close Unnecessary Applications. Before starting your exam, please close any unnecessary applications, such as Microsoft Teams, Spotify, Steam, or any other application that is not necessary for exams. Having many open programs may cause delays when it’s time to upload your exam.

While these steps are strongly recommended as precautions, please know that we will make every effort to ensure you are able to successfully use your computer for your exam. For more information and a full FAQ, please visit the Law School’s exam website.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.

Marquette Sports Law Review Summer 2026 Writing Competition

Registration for the Marquette Sports Law Review's summer membership writing competition is now open. Any Marquette University Law School student who, at the start of the first summer 2026 session, is a second-year law student in residence according to Marquette University standards and is in good academic standing (e.g., 2.0 cumulative GPA after the completion of at least 27 credits), is eligible to become a member of the Marquette Sports Law Review for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Students interested in participating in the summer competition can register by clicking here by Thursday, April 23. Registration alone does not commit any student to participating in the competition, it merely adds you to a group of students who will receive the competition from the editorial board after finals. Membership on the Sports Law Review is a requirement for the Sports Law Certificate.

In addition, only Certificate candidates who have competed in the summer competition are eligible for most Sports Law Certificate program internships. Students are also encouraged to attend the editorial board's meeting on Wednesday, April 1, to learn more about the summer competition (register for the meeting here).

Fall 2026 Registration - Waitlist Reminders

When a course reaches capacity, the system will close the course. Thereafter, if a spot becomes available in the course because another student dropped it, students who try to enroll directly via CheckMarq will receive a "Department Permission Required" error. This indicates that there is an active waitlist and open spots will go to students who have added themselves to the course's waitlist.

Accessing the Waitlist Form

  • You may add yourself to the waitlist by navigating to the Registration Materials page on the Law School's website and selecting the appropriate semester's yellow waitlist form button.

Editing Your Submission

  • To modify your waitlist request after submission, you must click "Save my response to edit" immediately after submitting — this link appears on your browser screen upon confirmation. We strongly recommend all students save this link each time they submit, as it is required to make any future edits.
  • You should update your form as seats become available or your scheduling needs change.

Waitlist Processing

Waitlists are reviewed and processed on a weekly basis. Please note the following:

  • Keep your form current. The information you submit will be used to process any enrollment changes if a seat opens. You will be notified by email if you are successfully added to a course.
  • Respond promptly to any issues. If you receive an email identifying a problem with your request, you must respond within 48 business hours. Failure to respond will result in the seat being offered to the next student on the waitlist. Your position on the waitlist will be retained.
  • Do not contact faculty directly to request enrollment prior to the start of the semester. Faculty have discretion to add students once the semester begins and waitlists are cleared; until that point, all additions are made strictly in waitlist order.
  • Remove yourself if your interest changes. If you no longer wish to be considered for a waitlisted course, delete your request promptly to prevent unintended schedule changes.

Monitoring Your Waitlist Position

Following registration, you will receive periodic email updates indicating your current position on each waitlist and any movement that has occurred.

Marquette Law Review 2026 Write-on Competition

Registration is now open for the Marquette Law Review's 2026 Write-On Competition. Students who are interested in participating in the summer writing competition can register HERE. Accessing the TWEN page will automatically enroll students in the competition. However, enrollment does not commit students to participation; it merely provides access to the writing competition. Therefore, students are strongly encouraged to register if they have an interest in becoming a member of the Marquette Law Review.

Students can earn membership to the Marquette Law Review by either (1) "grading on" or (2) participating in the summer writing competition. To be eligible to participate in the competition, a student must complete all required 1L courses and have at least two semesters remaining by the end of the spring semester.

Registration closes on Tuesday, June 9, at 11:59 p.m., and no exceptions will be made for late enrollment. The competition itself will run from Wednesday, June 10, at 8:00 a.m. through Tuesday, June 23, at 8:00 p.m. More information about the summer writing competition is available on the competition's TWEN page

If you have any questions regarding the writing competition, please contact the Senior Comment Editor, Caroline Taylor
