CPC Team's first day of fall semester!

ACADEMIC TERM OFFICE HOURS

The Career Planning Center (CPC) is open during the following hours:

  • Monday - Thursday: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. 
  • Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

STUDENT COUNSELING SESSIONS

Individual student counseling sessions are available by appointment during office hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays, the CPC hosts walk-in hours from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Students are welcome to stop in the CPC any time during business hours on Wednesdays--no appointments needed.

When possible, appointments should be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. If your situation requires a meeting outside of office hours or sooner than 48 hours, please email a team member directly.

Erin M. Binns, J.D.

Asst. Dean Binns has been guiding Marquette law students and graduates in their professional formation and career activities for over two decades. Dean Binns's work includes educating and coaching students and graduates in their career search strategies, network building, and overall professional development. Additionally, Dean Binns is committed to establishing relationships with employers for the purpose of expanding opportunities for students and graduates. 

Her knowledge of the legal industry is founded on the fact that she graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where she served as a teaching assistant for the University of Wisconsin Law School's legal research and writing program. Prior to joining Marquette Law School, Dean Binns worked as an associate and summer associate with the law firm of Quarles & Brady where her practice focused on commercial litigation and products liability claims. Dean Binns began her professional career as a high school English teacher, instructing courses in literature, writing, and public speaking.  

Sofia Ascorbe, J.D.

Director Ascorbe works with students and alumni in their career discernment and professional development. Before her work in student advocacy, she was a staff attorney at Legal Action of Wisconsin, where she represented clients facing elder abuse and housing injustice. She was part of the original team of attorneys that operated Milwaukee's Eviction Defense Project (EDP). In her role with the EDP, she trained hundreds of attorneys across the state on housing law and client counseling, she oversaw volunteer attorneys in their representation of tenants, and she presented at various community centers on renter's rights. For her work with the EDP, she was recognized by the Wisconsin State Bar as a "Legal Innovator" in 2018, and as Wisconsin's 2020 "Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year". 

Director Ascorbe knows the importance of gaining practical experience as a student. During her time at the University of Wisconsin Law School, she advocated for incarcerated individuals through the Wisconsin Innocence Project, spent a summer working with American Family Insurance's corporate in-house legal team, and interned with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's trial division. She is a graduate of Marquette University, where she studied English Literature and Philosophy. Raised in Miami, Florida, she has since fallen in love with lake hikes, the seasons, and this community.

Lexi Garczynski
Recruiting Program Specialist

Lexi Garczynski is the Recruiting Program Specialist in the Career Planning Center at Marquette University Law School. She manages employer recruitment events, oversees recruitment communications, and supports a range of programming designed to connect students with legal employment opportunities.

Prior to joining Marquette, Lexi was employed at a law firm specializing in estate planning, where she developed a strong foundation in legal administrative support by working with attorneys and clients across multiple states. She is a commissioned Notary Public in the State of Wisconsin. Lexi also brings experience from her time at Quad, an international corporation, where she held a role within the Human Resources department. Her responsibilities there included managing employee engagement initiatives and organizing corporate events.

Darek Ciemniewski (Dr. C.)
Writing Specialist

Dr. Darek Ciemniewski (Dr. C.) partners with students through the Career Planning Center in preparing application materials, specifically legal writing samples and cover letters. Dr. Ciemniewski joined the law school community in 2008 while teaching writing, including English as a Second Language, in the English Department, where he started in 1995 and continued until 2020. During summer sessions at that time, he also taught writing in the Freshman Frontier Program (renamed Emerging Scholars Program), an academic support program that helps prospective students transition from high school to college. Outside academia, Dr. C evaluated foreign educational credentials and experiential education as well as drafted specialty occupation analyses in response to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Requests for Evidence in H-1B visa cases. 

Dr. C earned his first master’s degree, in English with certification in teaching, from the University of Warsaw, Poland. Before receiving his second master’s degree and a doctorate, both in History, from Marquette University, Dr. C served with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, where he coordinated removal of unexploded ordnance and planned mine clearing operations in the Middle East, for which he received an In the Service of Peace medal. Dr. C enjoys wildlife photography.
