Biography

Franky Newcomb joined the law library in 2024 as the Reference & Instructional Services Law Librarian. Professor Newcomb graduated summa cum laude from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana with a B.A. in English and a Minor in Classics. They earned their J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in Minneapolis in 2021.

After law school, Professor Newcomb worked in various legal settings while studying toward a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. As a civil rights lawyer at a non-profit law firm in Milwaukee, they advocated for clients experiencing disability discrimination, primarily in employment. Following that role, they joined the Minneapolis law firm Lockridge Grindal Nauen, participating in antitrust litigation.

As a Reference & Instructional Services Law Librarian & Adjunct Professor of Law, Professor Newcomb provides research assistance to students, faculty, and the community. They also teach courses in Advanced Legal Research (ALR) and collaborate to provide instruction in the first-year legal analysis, writing and research program.

They are a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association, the Milwaukee chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin, and the American Association of Law Libraries.
