Jacob Hamburger

Biography

Jacob Hamburger joined the faculty of Marquette University Law School in 2025. His research explores the legal processes at the federal, state, and local levels that shape the lives of noncitizens the United States. His scholarship has been published or is forthcoming in the Duke Law Journal, the Washington University Law Review, and the Boston College Law Review, and he has written and been cited in a wide variety of media outlets.

Before joining Marquette Law School, Professor Hamburger was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Cornell Law School, where he taught Civil Procedure and a seminar on Immigration Federalism. He previously practiced immigration law as a staff attorney at Legal Aid Chicago.

Jacob earned a JD from the University of Chicago Law School, a master’s degree from the École Normale Supérieure (Paris), and a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University.
