Please join the Federalist Society and the Association for Women Lawyers as they host Nadine Strossen, former president of the American Civil Liberties Union, to discuss themes from her book HATE: Why We Should Resist it with Free Speech, Not Censorship. The event will take place over the lunch hour in room 367. Noodles & Co. will be served for attendees. All students and faculty are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please RSVP.

On college campuses and social media, as well as in workplaces and neighborhoods across the country, debates are raging about free speech and hate speech. People want answers to questions such as: Is hate speech protected and, if so, where? Is there a distinction between free speech and hate speech? What should be done to combat hate speech? Nadine Strossen writes, teaches, and advocates in the areas of constitutional law, civil liberties, and international human rights. During her time serving as the first female president of the ACLU from 1991 to 2008, the organization reexamined its position on hate speech and concluded that censoring such speech would do more harm than good, a position Professor Strossen will discuss in this interesting and relevant event. Please RSVP.
