As part of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of its creation the National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School and its 35th Anniversary CLE Series, the Institute's annual fall conference, "Perspectives on 35 Years of Sports Law" will take place on Friday, October 18, 2024.  With the support of Official  CLE Series Sponsor Foley & Lardner LLP and its Sports & Entertainment Group, and additional sponsors the Law Office of Martin J. Greenberg LLC, and the Sports & Entertainment Law Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the program will feature presentations from sports law professors and scholars providing perspectives on the development of sports law and its impact on antitrust law, labor law, Olympic sports and arbitration, gambling, esports, disability and mental health, constitutional rights, gender equity, and race and representation.  The conference will also feature a Keynote from Major League Baseball Commissioner Emeritus Bud Selig, Distinguished Lecturer in Sports Law and Policy, focusing on developments in baseball over the past 3 decades with a look to the future, and a discussion of the value of the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University Law School that he was instrumental in creating back in the late 1980s. The program will run from 9 am until @5:30 pm, in the Lubar Center on the first floor of Eckstein Hall, the home of Marquette University Law School.

The National Sports Law Institute will also apply for between 6 and 7 Wisconsin CLE credits from the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners for this program. Conference location, parking & tentative schedule

  • LOCATION: The conference will take place in the Lubar Center on the first floor of Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53201.  (Take virtual tour here).
  • PARKING: All attendees, except for Marquette University Law School students, can park in the law school's 11th street lot (P2), underneath the Law School, and entering from 11th street at no charge.

Conference Hotel Recommendation

The National Sports Law Institute recommends that guests consider staying at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Milwaukee Downtown, blocks from the Law School for their conference visit.

Continuing Legal Education Credit for Lawyers

The National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School will seek approval for 6-7 Wisconsin CLE credits for this event.  The Institute cannot guarantee the receipt of any CLE credit for any attorney for this event as decisions on awarding credit comes only from the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners or the applicable CLE approval body in the state the individual attorney is seeking credit from.  Attendees seeking CLE credit from other states can receive additional information from the Institute that may assist with such applications, but the Institute will not complete out of state applications for any individual attorney.  Attendees interested in receiving CLE credit must remain for the entire event.
