On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Marquette's Sports Law Competition Board will host the final round of its Collegiate Athletics Negotiation Competition.  The competition will run from 5 pm until 7 pm in room 144.  A reception will follow after the final round.

The final round will feature Team 12 - Nicholas Owczarzak and JD (John) Pirris and Team 4 - David Beira and Oliver Hayes.  The teams will negotiate a deal between College Volleyball Star, Harper Murray of Nebraska Volleyball and luxury fashion brand, Louis Vuitton.  The negotiation will be argued before a panel of guests from college athletic, including -

  • Melanie Aptaker, Athletic Compliance Coordinator, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ (L’22),
  • Shane Drahota, Senior Deputy Director/Administration & Student Services, Minnesota State Athletics, Mankato, MN,
  • Jessica Kumke, Associate Commissioner for Compliance, Governance and Legal Strategies, Horizon League, Indianapolis, IN (L’08),
  • Patrick McCormick, Director of Compliance for Eligibility, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI (L’23), and
  • Ethan Sebert, Assistant Director of Athletics, Compliance, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA (L’15)

Sports Law Program students are encouraged to come and support their classmates participating in the final round.  More specifically, 

  • First year students interested in participating in the sports law intramural competitions as second years should attend, your actual attendance will be recorded and is a factor in selection for the competitions as 2Ls,
  • Second year students who competed in the initial rounds of the competition and hope to be placed on a national team during their third year, should also attend, as this will be a factor as we select national teams next year, and
  • Third year students competing in National Sports Law Competitions during the 2024-2025 academic year, are required to attend as part of your placement on a national team.

The winners of the competition will receive an invitation to participate in a National Sports Law Competition during the 2025-2026 academic year.  After the final round, the Sports Law Program will host a reception for all attendees.
