What experience was most valuable for you within the Sports Law Program?

It's probably a tie between the moot court competition and Marquette Sports Law Review. Both gave me invaluable skills that I use daily in my current position, and boosted my confidence in my ability to practice when I graduated. They are also great examples of ways the sports law program reaches beyond just the sports law world to prepare you for other types of work.

What is your current job (title / organization)?

Associate Legal Counsel at Michels Corporation (utility contractor)

How did your participation in the Sports Law Program prepare you for your current position?

First and foremost, my participation in the Sports Law Program made law school interesting in a way that drove me to work hard and do well, which reflected on my resume and helped me succeed in my career. It also provided an excellent network upon graduation. Many of the friends I am still in touch with from law school are from the Program, and Sports Law grads are all over the country which is a huge benefit in a legal network.

Would you recommend participation in the Sports Law Program to incoming admitted students? If yes, why? Please include any advice for these students as well.

Absolutely. The Sports Law Program makes the law school environment a little smaller in a way that helps you feel supported and gives you guidance on how to navigate law school. It also exposes students to many different areas of the law while teaching a subject that is truly interesting to the participants.

My advice would be to take advantage of all the opportunities afforded by the Sports Law Program and to use Professor Anderson as a resource. He is an excellent mentor, sounding board, and a lifelong supporter of the students in the Program.
