Where are you from (city / state)

Winfield, IL

Where did you go to college (name / city / state)?

Marquette University - Milwaukee, WI

How where you involved in the Sports Law Program as a law student?

Beyond the standard requirements of taking sports law classes and participating in the Sports Law Review for one year, I was a member of the Sports Law Society and served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Sports Law Review during my 3L year. I also participated in the internship program and was placed at the Milwaukee Brewers. I was also a research assistant for PA, and helped him plan the spring and summer sports law recruiting events held at the law school.

What experience was most valuable for you within the Sports Law Program?

My internship with the Milwaukee Brewers. Not only did I learn invaluable lessons about what it is like to practice law for a sports team, but I also quite literally would not have my current job if I was not given this internship opportunity.

What is your current job (title / organization)?

Legal Associate, Milwaukee Brewers

How did your participation in the Sports Law Program prepare you for your current position?

The obvious answer is that my internship placement allowed me to get my foot in the door at the Milwaukee Brewers, and to ultimately be offered a part-time, and then full-time role with the Club.

Beyond that, the coursework I took as part of this program (contract drafting, sports sponsorship and marketing, among others) provided me with insight into the kind of work that I would be doing each day as an in-house attorney.

Additionally, participating in the Sports Law Review as both a member and Editor-in-Chief honed my communication skills, and my ability to manage others, like the student interns I now oversee.

Would you recommend participation in the Sports Law Program to incoming admitted students? If yes, why? Please include any advice for these students as well.

Yes! Even if you don't end up working in sports, the Sports Law Program provides you with so many experiences that can only help you once you enter the workforce. And for me, it made law fun, because I was learning about something I was truly passionate about and actually wanted to study. The Sports Law Program has also provided me with an incredibly close-knit network of alumni who are working in sports across the country, whether in MLB, other leagues, or at the collegiate level. Knowing I have friends and colleagues in the industry who I can always rely on is a great feeling.

My advice to the students would be to take advantage of every opportunity given to you, because you never know how those opportunities can change the course of your career (or your life!). Don't be afraid to reach out to alumni who are in roles that you are interested in; I've done countless phone calls, coffee dates, lunches, and the like with past and current students, and am always willing be to a resource to students in the Sports Law Program.
