Join us April 8 for “Data Centers and the Energy-Water Nexus.” This event—presented by the Law School’s Water Law and Policy Initiative in the Lubar Center—will focus on energy and water use by data centers. Energy generation and clean water are tightly intertwined, in that it takes one to produce the other. The discussion will examine how data centers draw on both resources and will explore the resulting stress on power grids and water supplies, community opposition centered on environmental harms, and the regulatory challenges posed by data centers.

Professor David Strifling, director of the Water Law and Policy Initiative, and Art Harrington, adjunct professor of law and of counsel at Godfrey & Kahn, S.C., will co-moderate a conversation with:

  • Tom Content, Executive Director, Citizens Utility Board of Wisconsin
  • Cheryl Nenn, Riverkeeper, Milwaukee Riverkeeper
  • Kate Phillips, Senior Corporate Counsel, WEC Energy Group

A light breakfast will begin at 8:15 a.m., with the program starting promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Those interested may also want to view a previous Lubar Center program examining the broad impacts of rapid data center growth in Wisconsin.
