Why Do Marquette Lawyers Keep Showing Up?

What compels Marquette lawyers to continue giving back—long after graduation?

Maybe it's the desire to stand up for justice. Maybe it's the joy of mentoring the next generation. Or maybe, it’s simply about making a difference in the lives of real people who need real help.

Whatever their reason, more than 125 Marquette alumni attorneys currently volunteer with the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinics (MVLCs)—half of our 250-attorney volunteer force. Join them in serving the Milwaukee community and beyond.

What’s In It For You?

Pro bono work isn’t just about giving—it’s about growing, connecting, and being part of something bigger. Volunteering through MVLC or elsewhere offers real professional and personal benefits:

  • Earn CLE Credit
Get 1 CLE credit for every 5 hours of volunteer work (per Chapter 31 of the WI Supreme Court Rules).

  • Still Want to Help—but Retired or Inactive?
Lawyers in inactive or emeritus status can volunteer by opting into a special practice status (SCR 10.03(3)(am)).

  • Free CLE Sessions
Attend training and development sessions on key topics like substantive law, ethics, and more.

  • Mentor Future Lawyers
Guide Marquette law students and help shape the next generation of public-interest attorneys.

  • Boost Your Network
Meet like-minded colleagues—pro bono is a natural place to build lasting professional relationships.

  • Make a Tangible Impact
Every hour you give expands access to justice in Milwaukee and lives out the highest ideals of our profession.
