PILS Fellowships and Events

The Public Interest Law Society encourages membership for students of all interests and backgrounds. PILS has three core purposes:

  1. To educate students about public interest law opportunities and provide networking and community building opportunities, like PILS Giving. Public interest law can be connected to virtually every area of practice, and strong support of public interest work is vital in every community.
  2. To fundraise for the Marquette Summer PILS Fellowship program. Interested students may apply for a fellowship to do public interest legal work in the summer following their first or second year at Marquette. Fellows perform 350 hours during their summer placement at public interest organizations nationwide.
  3. To support the Office of Public Service in engaging the whole student body in pro bono work. Marquette offers pro bono opportunities to all students and encourages the completion of at least fifty hours of pro bono service, a goal modeled after the Model Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 6.1.
